June 2012 Book Club

We had such a fun book club this week!  Everyone was in the best spirits, with the kids out of school and Summer plans about to take place.   For me, it was such a treat to see my girlfriends and catch up, that I totally forgot to photograph or get the details on the appetizers Lisa brought or Susan’s delicious dinner.  I was in charge of dessert and made two kinds of cookies.  I made Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies, pictured below, and Ginger Cookies.  I made both over the previous weekend and when they had cooled out of the the oven, I put them in ziplock bags and into the freezer.  I took them out of the freezer on the way to the dinner and they were perfectly thawed when we served them with strawberry sorbet for dessert.  They are two of my favorite cookies and the whole group must have thought so too, because there was not a cookie in site when I left!

For June we read Carry the One: A Novel by Carol Anshaw.

The story begins at the tale end of a wedding just as the party is winding down and the last of the guests,  family members and friends of the bride and groom, pile into a car leaving the reception.  As they drive off through the deserted back roads, they hit a little girl on the rode, killing her.  The story is about how each member of that car, from the driver to each passenger, “carry” the event with them through the rest of their lives.  The book weaves in and out of each character as they each deal with the accident in their own ways.  Here is my rating:
