Book Review: Rich and Pretty

For Book Club this month we read Rich and Pretty, a novel about two women who have been friends since high school and, as the title suggests, one is pretty and one is rich.  It is a story about friendship that weaves in and out, the ups and downs, being really close and not so close.  It was just Ok in my books.  I read it cover to cover, but honestly, it didn’t grab my attention or want me to even finish it.  It was pretty unanimous in our group that no one really liked it but, it did initiate an interesting conversation.  It brought up where and how you met your friends, what made them last the test of time and which fell to the wayside for one reason or another.  It also surprised us that the author, Rumann Alam, is a man and we discussed whether or not we feel he got the female perspective across. If anything, it got us chatting about our different opinions and that is why we got together in the first place. Have you read Rich and Pretty?  If so, let me know what you thought in the comments below.. we would love to hear from you.

Ridgely Brode reviews the book Rich and Pretty by Rumaan Alam on her blog Ridgely's Radar.

  1. Hi Ridgely!
Not read the book but the book club discussion around friends – how met, kept and lost made me think about friends in my life and how they came to be there.
Love your blog although never comment.

    • Thank you Claire – Yes it was a really good discussion and did stir lots of memories. Thank you for following along and I appreciate you leaving a note! xxRidgely
