Beach Poncho

I am wearing a lot of beach ponchos these days.  They are so easy to throw on over my bathing suits and wear on my daily walks on the beach.  I wore these caftan on our trip over the holidays and this one is a wonderful tie-die blue silk that is so soft and lightweight it floats.  It is just want I want to wear when it is super hot and anything else would be too heavy and clingy.  I can’t resist anything in blue and the tie die pattern looks like ripples of water.

Easy Dressing for a Warm Beach Day

I am enjoying the warmer temps and sunshine in Florida this week for our sons Spring Break.  It has been a bit windy and a cold front did roll in but, that did not stop me from wearing my sundresses and getting in some beach time.  I recently found this dress and was happy that the tie does cinch in at the waist and gives a bit more definition than pictured (being red, white and blue it will be perfect for our patriotic holidays too!).  I broke out my new woven tote, sadly sold out in red , but available in a really great blue and black, which is always useful and chic.  I thought it would be fun to go with the red, plus I couldn’t resist the tassels and thought it would be beach friendly because it is made out of a woven plastic and the sand can be shaken off.  I also like these totes (posted here) and these are also fun.

Book Review: Rich and Pretty

For Book Club this month we read Rich and Pretty, a novel about two women who have been friends since high school and, as the title suggests, one is pretty and one is rich.  It is a story about friendship that weaves in and out, the ups and downs, being really close and not so close.  It was just Ok in my books.  I read it cover to cover, but honestly, it didn’t grab my attention or want me to even finish it.  It was pretty unanimous in our group that no one really liked it but, it did initiate an interesting conversation.  It brought up where and how you met your friends, what made them last the test of time and which fell to the wayside for one reason or another.  It also surprised us that the author, Rumann Alam, is a man and we discussed whether or not we feel he got the female perspective across. If anything, it got us chatting about our different opinions and that is why we got together in the first place. Have you read Rich and Pretty?  If so, let me know what you thought in the comments below.. we would love to hear from you.

5 Things in My Beauty Bag | 09

I am in Florida enjoying Spring Break with my family and I want to be sun kissed and natural while at the beach.  I am loving my new Morroconoil products that I brought along for this trip, in particular the sunscreen and hydrating mask (I am still using these products to keep my hair tamed). It feels good to just throw on a fresh perfume, a soft lipstick and really good mascara for a night out.

Are You Ready to Wear Shorts?

The weather in the Northeast is teasing us.. one day it’s 60 degrees and the next it’s in the 20’s.  Then we had Daylight Savings sneak up on us! How did that happen so quickly? We are off to Florida for Spring Break and all I can think about is wearing a bathing suit, shorts, lightweight dresses and sandals!  I can’t wait!  To get in the mood, I rounded up some really cute shorts that work for the beach, to cruising around during the day and then paired with a pretty top for a night out.  I added in some really great wicker bags.. how fabulous is the circular one?? OMG!! I am dying! I really like the first look and found this One Shoulder Top, this bow back top, this blue detailed one and this seersucker (!) in blue that would look cute with shorts.

With Spring nipping at our heels, Ridgely Brode finds several cute shorts (and wicker bags) on her blog Ridgely's Radar to get us ready!
