From Brimfield to My Table

I had heard about Brimfield, an antiques and collectibles show that occurs three times a year in Brimfield, MA, from good friends and neighbors but I had never had an opportunity to go until this year. The show takes place over six days along a one mile stretch with vendors on either side of the road showing either for a few days or for the entire period.
Somehow I saw a conversation stream on Twitter about #Brimfield and I joined into the chatter.  If I remember correctly the conversation started with when and who was going to the May show and, almost instantly, Gretchen Aubuchon of Gretchen Aubuchon Design with, Cynthia Bogart Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Basics, organized the first ever Brimfield Tweet Up. The Tweet Up would allow designers, decorators, shoppers, and Twitter enthusiasts to gather, share and store their purchases, and finally meet Twitter friends in real life.  I have to say I got excited about going to Brimfield from all the Twitter banter and, coupled with the fact one of my best friends was planning on going, I made plans to go.  Unfortunately the day we went was before the Tweet Up, but I did get to meet Gretchen and see what a great set up they had planned!
Like any antique show or flea market you have to get there early and it is hard work.  The day I went it was freezing and damp…not a pleasant day.   My friends and I started out with positive thoughts, cash and checkbook at the ready.  Almost immediately, at my friend Christine’s urging, I bought the below piece of fabric.  Being a newbie, I made Christine haggle over the price with the vendor!  I think I paid $20.

I threw it into the wash and dryer, then dragged out my sewing machine and hemmed the edges.

I ironed it on my mangle.
Viola..it is on my table!  I should point out that I also bought the green lantern you see here the same day.  Score!
The next Brimfield Tweet Up is September 8th – 9th, 2011.  It is sure to be a huge success and you shouldn’t miss it!  It is the same time as the beginning of New York Fashion Week so, sadly, I do not think I will be able to go.  But next May.. I am there!

Happy 4th of July!

Every year we spend the 4th of July weekend in Newport, RI.  It is our first big weekend at the beach and always makes me feel like MY summer finally has started!  I plan on sitting on the beach, read a few good books on my Kindle, follow my son (one is away at camp) into the water and around the beach, eat delicious meals and have an ice cream cone a day.  As I sit back and enjoy my long weekend, I am going to leave you with some very creative and simple 4th of July entertaining ideas:

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Birthday Penny!

I couldn’t resist…what girl does not love a balloon or better yet a room full of balloons? How about a HUGE balloon with golden tassels?!?  I saw these posted on Look Linger Love and Twig & Thistle – I gasped, sighed and wanted to share these with someone very special.  I knew right away who would love these more than anyone else…

Happy Birthday Penny!
