Easy Dressing for a Warm Beach Day

I am enjoying the warmer temps and sunshine in Florida this week for our sons Spring Break.  It has been a bit windy and a cold front did roll in but, that did not stop me from wearing my sundresses and getting in some beach time.  I recently found this dress and was happy that the tie does cinch in at the waist and gives a bit more definition than pictured (being red, white and blue it will be perfect for our patriotic holidays too!).  I broke out my new woven tote, sadly sold out in red , but available in a really great blue and black, which is always useful and chic.  I thought it would be fun to go with the red, plus I couldn’t resist the tassels and thought it would be beach friendly because it is made out of a woven plastic and the sand can be shaken off.  I also like these totes (posted here) and these are also fun.

The Betty Maxi Dress

That saying ‘you won’t know until you try it’ is so true, especially when you are browsing the Boohoo.com site.  It is a bear to surf through all the pages, but the rewards are just too good for me NOT to keep going back for more.  I found this maxi dress (search Betty) and, at first glance, it has no personality, but when I put it on I was so psyched.  I love how it fits and it was perfect for a road trip around Connecticut.  If I wear it just once (the price is unbelievable!) I wouldn’t mind but, I know I will wear it a lot. It is so comfortable, especially on a long car ride, and perfect for our Indian Summer weather. Take a look around, I know you will get lucky and find something really good…

Lattice Paisley Dress

The hardest part of my day is getting up and dressed for work.  I sleep to the last possible second and then it is a race to make my train. I have found in my almost 20 years of commuting (eeeekk!) that having a closet of dresses that fit me and I feel comfortable in is the only way I can get out of the door on time. I think I should explain that last sentence. My weight fluctuates and if I put on an outfit that is too tight or I can’t figure out what to pair with it, I can be standing in my closet for what seems like hours trying on and discarding clothes. I don’t have the luxury of time to weed through my closet to find something to wear, so a row of work friendly, figure flattering dresses are my savior. Once I add a chunky necklace and pair of shoes, I am out the door and on the train.  There is nothing better than finding a brand that work for my figure, budget and style so that I can go back year after year to buy something from their collection to add my closet. I have added this Lattice Paisley Dress into my rotation. I love that it works well on its own, with a white fitted jacket or the navy cardigan picture below. This one is a keeper..

Tie Dresses

Every now and again I take a tour through Need Supply Co. to see what new things they are carrying.  They are a store based in Richmond, Virginia that showcase really interesting independent designers. Many of the designs are simple, architectural and modern. I love the look of this tie dress and can’t decide between the sand or navy.  This happens a lot for me that when I can’t decide, I buy both!  I also love the simplicity of the wooden bead necklace which also comes in all natural colors (it is on sale!).  Don’t miss their other categories.  I have my eye on these Postalco Notebooks, the family of ducks and ducklings and this bright colored skirt. Let me know what you find!

My New Beach Dress

I love nothing more than being at the beach.  I spend hours walking on the beach, swimming in the ocean and taking naps in between reading and catching up with our family. When we go to the beach, I pack more swimsuits than clothes and what clothes I do bring need to have many uses from running errands during the day, to cocktails on the beach and maybe even dinner out. I love a simple pattern in a lightweight, wrinkle free fabric that works with a cardigan on a chilly night. My new beach dress is perfect!  I love that it has pockets to stash my phone, slits to keep my legs cool in the heat, a no-fuss self belt and the best part…it’s on sale!

What to Wear on a Hot Summer Night

It has been so hot and it doesn’t seem to be cooling off.  I am looking for a light weight, loose dress that packs a punch.  I think this pink dress does just that! If pink is not for you there is this pretty white version. I love that either of them can be worn to a very casual or dressy event just by changing up the accessories. If the heat sticks around, I am thinking flats are easy for those hot, humid nights and if I needed to dress it up I would wear these comfortable heels. I just discovered this MAC look in a box at the Nordstrom Early Access Sale, it has just what you need for a fresh, natural tanned face and with the pouch you can touch up on the go!
