Taking a Coffee Break in My Favorite Pieces

I had a round of my yearly doctor appointments last Friday and the weather was gorgeous!  I was able to meet my husband afterwards for a coffee and we went to the local butcher shop to see what we could make for dinner.  It was nice to spend a little time enjoying the weather and each other instead of racing around like we normally do.  I wore a few of my favorite things, that made it through the rigors of my closet clean out, and my new cat eye sunglasses.  I love buying new sunglasses, they never disappoint and can change up your look! I am looking forward to more Spring like temperatures and playing hooky with my husband!

Frayed Jeans

Did you see my step-by-step guide: how to fray your jeans ?  I am so happy I took the plunge and frayed my jeans. I might not have cut them short enough but I am glad I erred on the side of caution and went a little longer. I feel like they will start to fray more and after a few washes will be the perfect length.  It was the perfect way to fix a favorite pair of bootcut jeans that was just a little too short.  I have worn them all the time and know they will just get better the more I wear them.  Next I am going to go after a pair of my white jeans!

How to Fray Jeans

I have had frayed ankle length jeans on my mind ever since I did this post on cropped flared jeans earlier this Summer. I realized I had a  pair of bootcut jeans that had shrunk up in the wash and were a little too short for anything other than the flattest of flats.  I decided to transform them into a better more hip length.  I got out my best sharp sewing scissors and got to work.

Here is what I did:

DIY – How to Fray Jeans

PRINT instructions

1 . Try on your jeans and fold them to the length you want them to be after you cut them. I erred on the longer side to be safe. (2.5″ versus the 3″ I folded them to)

2. Measure the folded portion of the Jeans to determine how many inches you want to cut off.

3. Turn jeans hem smooth and lay on flat surface.

4. Pin the pant leg together so that when you cut them it will be even on all sides

5. Using a Measuring Tape, mark the jeans with a Marking Pencil (that dissolves when washed)  at the desired length you want to cut.  I cut mine at 2.5 inches.  I figured I could always go shorter and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to fray them and that makes it even shorter.

6. Using a Good Sharp Scissors cut along marked chalk line through the jeans

7. Using a Seam Ripper pull the threads along the cut edge of the jeans.  Pull as many as you want but remember the hem gets shorter with the more you pull.

8. Put jeans in the washing machine and wash/ dry as you prefer.

9. You can leave the hanging frayed edges or cut the long bits off.  I cut mine off to make a cleaner edge but know they will fray more as I wear them.

10. Ta Da!  That’s all .. How easy is that?

Yes, You Can Wear Super Skinny Jeans

Yes, you can wear super skinny jeans!  I know because I can’t stop wearing my new favorite jeans, the Yummie super skinny jeans.  I didn’t think it was possible to squeeze myself into them, nor did I think they would look good on this body, but I am pleased to say I got right into them and they don’t look half bad. You are going to have to trust me on this because for some reason I didn’t take my coat off for these pictures (maybe because it was freezing out!).  The website says they are a mid-rise jean with a shorter zipper to give the illusion of a low-rise while hiding the muffin top. They do just that!  They are high enough to create a smooth waist line but are not a dreaded “Mom Jean”. The denim is stretchy but they do not bag after one, two or even three wears.  I love them because they are all day comfortable with the feel and cut of denim but look like a dark navy skinny pant. I later transitioned them from day to night by changing into the white blouse from this post and adding high heel boots. I felt glam and just right for a night on the town. Give them a try and let me know if you agree!
