On our family trip to Paris this Summer, when we were
shopping browsing at Colete, I fell into a beautiful glass display of Limited Re-Edition Fendi Baguettes. I about died when I realized one of my bags was in the case…a bag I purchased in 2000! Like any special (read expensive!) purchase, I remember hemming and hawing over which bag to buy. My best friend, Stormy, and I were desperate for a baguette and we would go to the Fendi store to drool over the latest models. We both bought a bag and I have loved mine ever since. Not until we came home from our trip and I was reading The Buzz…, did I realize the bags were celebrating a Fifteenth Anniversary! There are six vintage bags, pictured below, being reproduced for this special occasion…can you guess which one I own?
This is a wonderful video of the the making of the bags. Wait until you see the craftsmanship and care that goes into each bag. It makes me appreciate how special my bag is and I am thinking I should take it out of the depths of my closet and put it where I can enjoy it even more.
I addition to the bags, Fendi launched the Fendi Baguette Book to honor the bags and showcase 250 of the thousand baguettes created since 1997. Can you imagine how hard it must have been to pick which baguettes to put in the book? Every single one I have seen is beautiful and worthy of being included. This book is on my wish list!
Here is a short interview with Silvia Venturini Fendi, Fendi’s Creative Director, about the baguettes and the making of the book.
