I prefer to think of September as the beginning of my New Year and not January with its cold, dark short days. I like the idea that September is back-to-school, new clothes, new supplies and beautiful long endless warm days. September is also my birthday month and therefore, my New Year really does begin during that month. It is also the the perfect way to postpone any New Years Resolutions! So today when I was pulling, stretching, contorting at yoga (I am still in the beginner class!) our teacher, Chrissy, was imploring us to be PRESENT in our practice and in our lives. To engage our breathe, mind and limbs in our poses. It struck a nerve (clearly, or I would not be writing about it!)
While we may postpone the diet or new exercise program until after the holidays or put our lives on “hold” until we finish a project or deal with a problem in our lives, we have to remember that we are living NOW. New Year’s Resolutions may be once a year but we live everyday, so instead of waiting for that event to be over or holding off until a far off date, why not try everyday to be present in your life. What put it all together for me was when Chrissy said that while we may sometimes feel like we are No Where we are actually Now Here. Flip it around and embrace today!
