Did you know that Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10th ?? I am all for appreciating our teachers! We have two boys in school and it has not been easy dealing with homework, reading and projects at home. I can only imagine how hard it is to manage and teach 25+ kids in the classroom! I do not think I appreciated my teachers enough when I was in school (hopefully my parents did!) and I am paying back now. When our boys were in elementary school we would get notes sent home in our sons backpacks telling us to send in flowers so that the Class Mom’s could use them to create beautiful arrangements for the teachers. It always caught me off guard and, if I remembered, I would grab a bunch of tulips in Grand Central the night before so our boys had something to bring to school the next day. I remember Wendy telling Book Club how, in a last minute morning panic, she ran out in her PJ’s and hacked off a limb of her lilac bush. Her husband was not too pleased.. but hey, you have to do what you have to do and it was for the teachers! In the years that have passed there has been a big to-do about Spring allergies and maybe flowers were not the best choice for teacher appreciation week. Which brings me to a great alternative! How about you get together with a bunch of Mom’s and bake your appreciation? Katie Workman of The Mom 100 Cookbook, has created Bake Your Teacher A Thank you. In her own words:
Baking Your Teachers a Thank You is simple (I promise), and with a bunch of parents pitching in, it’s a heartfelt way to show the school staff how much you value all they do for your kids (and if the baking is spread out over a bunch of families, it’s an easy way to spread a lot of gratitude!).
