For the past two weeks, as a result of the power failure to the Metro North New Haven Line, I have gotten up at a very uncivilized hour to stand with the hoards of commuters hoping for a seat, or space, on one of the hourly trains to New York. When I left my house to drive to the station it was still dark, with a sliver of the moon overhead, I would pass three, four, five plus walkers and runners wearing dark clothes, barely visible in the low light. Some were running in the street, even with a sidewalk a few feet away, with no reflectors or lights for me to see them. I am lucky I did not hit anyone! It made me realize that I too wear dark colors (hides all those imperfections!) and do not own anything that is reflective or lights up. I like to go walking when I get home from work and it is slowly getting darker and darker, come Daylight Savings in a few weeks, it will be dark before I leave work! To keep me from getting hit, I bought the below cap, vest and shoe spurs to wear on my early morning (wishful thinking!) and evening walks.
