Alert the News – I am wearing Red!

I can’t believe it, I use to wear red and I loved it!  I remember the day I stopped wearing red.  I was working at Calvin Klein, it was my first big job after graduating from college, and I was the assistant to Tonne Goodman in the Advertising Department.  Tonne was in charge of styling all the amazing advertisings and I got to tag along with her!  I ironed, sewed, dressed the HOTEST models and traveled all over the world with her.  It was a DREAM job and I was at Calvin Klein!  Pinch me!  Makes me so excited thinking about it right now.  😉   I digress, back to that fateful red day.  I remember reading Vogue magazine and tearing out this gorgeous red suit.  It was a fitted short jacket and skinny skirt to the knee  It was to die for.. and it was Ralph Lauren, which as many of you will know is the Other amazing American Designer.  Can you see where I am going here?  I think my parents gave it to me for my birthday, that part I do not remember. More importantly, I felt like a million bucks in that suit.  It was the 80’s – so no judgement!

I wore it to Calvin Klein.  Looking back now I can’t believe I wore red to Calvin Klein and a red Ralph Lauren no less, but hey, I was young and clearly not thinking! After a full day of wearing the suit all over the Calvin Klein offices and seeing Calvin in the halls, etc.  Tonne pulled me aside and said, very nicely, that red was not a color we wore at Calvin Klein. OMG!  I about died.  I was mortified!  The suit went to the back of my closet and red was off the color list.  Those days at Calvin Klein were so impactful to my aesthetic and understanding branding.  Everything down to the pencils and what people wore in the offices had to reflect the brand, why else did we get a clothing allowance and there was an employee store in the office?!  Yup.  That day changed my view on colors and 25 years later I seem ready to shake it up and wear red again! 🙂

I have to give a shout out to the jeans – Heartbreaker jeans – they have a little heart on the hip pocket and “heartbreaker” stitched in red on the ankle.  LOVE! and I have to thank my BFF for talking me into the small sweater, I still think I need to wear a medium and a size small is not my size. 🙂  Seriously!  How cool is that?
