Let’s be honest.. this could be a very trying few weeks.. month or maybe more. I feel like I have been quarantined for months already..and in the best possible location! Not to re-hash an old story but, for my new readers, I have been staying with my parents in Florida since November recovering from a broken ankle. It has been the best thing ever and I am very thankful to them and the time we have had together.
We just added a few new players to the mix. Namely my husband, our two sons and my niece. We are working remotely and about to start home-schooling on Monday. Luckily, we have plenty of space to practice social distancing and enough sunshine to keep our spirits high! Florida is pretty fabulous right now.. the weather is gorgeous.
But.. isn’t there always a but…
We are navigating a new normal and just like you, we aren’t sure what the other side looks like.
So here we are carving out our workspaces and making sure the internet can handle all of us video conferencing. Our only daily errand is grocery shopping and maybe sourcing items needed for a project my father has on his list. Meal planning and cooking are a group effort and we have a great clean up crew. We are doing just fine!
Here are a few things happening at our house!
1. Napkin Rings:
Instead of plowing through paper napkins and paper towels.. and to keep the washing (and ironing) of loads of cloth napkins down we decided everyone needed their own individual napkin ring. We dug out the ribbon bin and tied different color ribbons on each one. Voila! We now know which napkin is ours and we can reuse them at the next meal.
Which reminds me… Easter is coming. Why not grab the kiddos and make these cute bunny napkin rings? I have included a downloadable one sheet with instructions and a supply list.

2. Neighbor / Gal Pal Book Swap
Do you have lots of books and love to read, but are looking for some fresh titles to dive into. Why not ask a neighbor or close pal to pick a few favorites from her shelf and leave them in a bag outside her door? Swap it out with a bag of your favorites. Be sure to let her know if you want her to pass them on or give them back to you.. and vice versa.
Another great option… Download the Libby App to borrow free digital e-books from your local library right to your smartphone, kindle, e-reader. Want to know more? Read this post all about the Libby App
Need some ideas on what to download or buy from Amazon? I have a category on the blog called READS, that you can find on the menu bar at the top of every page. Click the word READS and below are book reviews and a list of my favorite books that you can click through an order from Amazon.
3. Cooking Together
Eating at home for every meal can be difficult and a lot of work with many more mouths to feed. My parents are both great cooks and we are going to see if we can have a few cooking lessons to learn some new tricks. We have poached eggs down.. and because our son loves Eggs Benedict we will be trying our hand at making hollandaise sauce. Sunday breakfast is getting an upgrade!
Even though we are not entertaining guests, there is no reason not to make something special for breakfast or brunch! Try this delicious Raspberry Baked French Bread that you can prepare the night before and great for a house full of family. YUM!!!!
What about you? Any tips you want to share with me and my readers that have made being home 24/7 more bearable? Leave a comment and let us know! We want to know!
