DIY Spooky Terrarium

It is getting Spooky at my house!  I recently went to an Estate Sale and found this large glass vase/ terrarium for $8 and bought it for $5.  I really did not have a plan for it until I broke out the Halloween bins and thought it would be fun to make a Spooky Terrarium.

In the Spring, I made a wooden house terrarium that is still living (that is big news!) and it’s in the only location that gets any light during the day.  With that in mind, I decided that I would rather have a non-living vessel that I would not have to keep moving around to find light, water and worry about.  As much as dead plants are very Halloween, they are not really my style.

Here is How I made My Spooky Terrarium

(Printable Directions) Spooky Terrarium Instructions

1.  After giving the vase a huge clean, I cut the bottom corner of a black garbage bag, filled it with about a cup of packing peanuts and placed it in the bottom of the vase.

2. I then took a bag of Reindeer Moss and scattered it on top of the black garbage bag, making sure to cover the edges.

3. I placed black stones and other natural colored stones around the moss and down the edges

4. Then I lightly spread the stringy Spanish Mossblank.
5. I found some twigs in my yard and stuck them in the outer edges of the glass and stretched a few pieces of Spider Web around the twigs.
6. As a final touch, I added a hairy spider to make it truly spooky

It was such an easy, fun and spooky project.  It  looks so good on our table and everyone takes a second look when they come in the house!  I love that!
PS.. I spy.. I could not resist sharing a picture of our new (no name) kitten taking a peak at what I was working on…
