What a Day at the Beach!

Wow! It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day!  With temperatures in the 60’s we went down to our local beach and enjoyed the sunshine.  It was just what we needed, the sun warming us as we enjoyed the view.  I would love if it could be like this every day!  I broke out my white jeans and threw on this long topper to keep me warm.  It is so soft and cozy, perfect in the shade and was just the right weight for today.  I didn’t want the day to end!  I hope you are enjoying your long weekend!

Book Review: News of the World

Wether you are going away or hunkering down for a staycation this long weekend, one book you can add to your reading list is News of the World, a novel by Paulette Jiles.  I learned about it from a fellow reader who also organizes book groups at our local library.  We were talking about recent titles and ones worth picking up, when she mentioned News of the World.  I  had no idea what it was about and just took her word for it, sometimes that is the beast way to dive into a book.. with no expectations.  The novel is set in the 1870’s and follows Jeffrey Kyle Kidd as he travels through Texas reading the news from papers far and near in local halls for a small fee, bringing  entertainment and information to small towns. In one town along his travels, he meets members of the US Army who pay him a $50 gold piece to deliver an orphaned 10 year old girl back to her family in San Antonio. We follow them through their journey to get her home and the events that surround them.  It is beautifully written, with descriptive settings and interesting antidotes.  I really enjoyed it and highly recommend you give it a read. Let me know what you think if you do pick it up!

Chic and Minimalist Pieces

I always love taking a look at the latest collections from Maje, they are chic, minimalist, but with an edge. I am pretty sure I have said this before, but it bears repeating, you won’t see these clothes coming and going at your next event and that makes it a really good secret between us.  Take a look around and buy it if you see something you like, it sells out quickly and then you will be bummed you missed out.  Take it from me.. I have learned the hard way.

Check out these chic, minimalist pieces from Maje that Ridgely Brode found and shares on her blog Ridgely's Radar

5 Things in My Beauty Bag | 08

Winter storms, snow, bitter winds are making my skin parched and in need of some extra TLC.  I just discovered this amazing 8 essential oils essence to apply all over my face and even my hair.  AHHHH!  I love it!  Having always been a fan of Kiehl’s I am looking forward to trying their new skin renewing cream, I am hoping it drinks my skin in vitality.  I am about to start using this Lash Booster (have you seen my little stubby eyelashes?) taking before picture this weekend and seeing what results I can get in 8 weeks, I will report back and let you know how it goes. This could be a game changer!   I am going to let you in on one of my all time new favorite products, it is this dual blush and illuminator, it is so easy to stroke on my skin and then I rub it in with my fingertips.  It is genius!  Lastly, I have been wanting to try the Supergoop! Forever Young Hand Cream and got news from my Dermatologist that it really does help with sun spots and making our overused digits look forever young, just like its name. That is a must buy in my books!

This month Ridgely Brode finds 5 things in her beauty bag that she is using and wants to use on her blog, Ridgely' Radar.

Classic Shapes that Never Go Out of Style

It is time I took the plunge and just bought that Saddle Bag that has been on my list forever!  The problem is, I cant decide which color.  I really am a blue girl, but the grey and ivory are also calling my name. The price is right and it is a classic that will never go out of style, plus I can get it monogrammed!  I am torn because I really like the Dinky Shoulder Bag with the chain / leather strap and the flower appliques. Ahhhh… and to add more issues the Edie Shoulder Bag is a good everyday size.  What do you like best?

Ridgely Brode just can't decide which classic shape she wants to get on her blog Ridgely's Radar, they are all good and never go out of style.

Weekend Casual on a Bright Day

Last weekend the light was gorgeous and the sun was streaming into my bedroom.  I wanted to capture my new look, but no one was home to take my pictures.. So I took out my remote and tried to do it myself. EEEK.  It is not easy trying to take your own picture with a manual setting on the camera and trying to run back and forth to see how it looks.  I am actually happy they turned out a little blown out – better on my fine lines and circles!  🙂 . Maybe I should make that my new style!

I am loving my new cozy sweater and yes, it is brown!  I usually wear an oversized, mens basic crew sweater, so it is nice to have a figure flattering and more stylish alternative.  It give me a waist and is long enough to cover the hips.  I just bought these J Brand skinny cargos in a size, wait for it.. 28!, and I love them! Best pair of pants ever!  I am so glad the gals in my office told me I had to go give J Brand a try, they really are worth the price!
