Valentines’s Day Breakfast with DIY SweetHeart Trees

Several years ago, I made these candy heart trees for my centerpiece.  They are easy to make and the best part, I bring them out year after year to brighten my breakfast table on Valentine’s Day!

I have a bin of  “conversation heart” items to add to my table-scape and while it is a little kitschy, it is fun!

Want to learn how I made these DIY Sweetheart Trees?

First, I shopped around (I am not satisfied until I know I have looked everywhere and tried everything!) and bought every brand of candy “Conversation Hearts” to see which ones I liked best.  I decided to use Sweethearts because I liked their size and solid exterior, the others seemed really chalky and dusty.  This is important.  You want them to last a long time and not fall apart.

I also purchased different-height cones so that they would be fun running down a table, on a mantle piece or as I have them clustered on a cake stand.

Below are all the supplies needed and instructions to makes these DIY Sweetheart Trees!

~Directions~

  1. Spray paint the FloraCraft White Conesblank  in a well ventilated area with the Montana Orchid Pinkblank paint. Leave to dry.
  2. Separated the candy hearts into ramekins by color.
  3. Take one dry, painted cone and, starting at the bottom, glue on the candy hearts* in a random color pattern around the cone until you reach the top.
  4. Glue each cone with candy heart until they are all done.
  5. Spray with a sealant – like this matte one so that it holds in the candy dust and last longer
  6. Arrange the cones on a cake plate and scatter the extra candy around the base of the cones.

*I chose to place the words facing the cone, but you can face them out if you prefer.
