I can’t believe I have not been reading as much as I used to… but I guess it makes sense since I am not commuting 2 hours a day. I find that with WFH (working from home), I am working longer hours and don’t step away from my bedroom office as early as I should. Therefore, reading has taken a back seat to other activities…
One of the best things to come out of quarantine is connecting with my college girlfriends and joining their virtual book club. It is not the same as meeting in-person but it is better than no book club! And it is really fun to see everyone and talk about BOOKS!
What are the New Books I have Read and Want to Read Now?
So far we have read Lost in Ghost Town: A Memoir of Addiction, Redemption, and Hope in Unlikely Places and The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz. Both books were more serious and not light beach reads. For this month we are reading the City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert. It is perfect for August and I am enjoying it so far.
Can you guess which book I read between Book Club Picks?
Did you pick Open Book by Jessica Simpson? That’s the one! I was curious to read her story and find out what took her out of the spotlight after being in her reality TV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. I remember watching them on the show and cringing through most of the show. I was hooked and loved them both! In her memoir, she is just as likable, funny, engaging, and shares her real and raw struggles. And how she, ultimately, finds her confidence and strength to overcome her obstacles. It was a fast read and it felt like she was a close friend sharing her story. It’s a good one!
Are you missing traveling and eating different cuisines?
Me too! I went searching for books that are part travelogues and food diaries… think The Little French Bistro where the scenery is one of the main characters of the book. I found See You in the Piazza by Frances Mayes and am hoping it sweeps me away to discover places in Italy I will dream about visiting in the near future (fingers crossed).
Did you read the Twilight Series?
I was a huge fan and devoured every single book. I was team Edward and did not watch the movies because I couldn’t imagine it would match up to my imagination! Stephanie Meyer has written a new book called Midnight Sun – released August 4th and already a BEST seller – that is written from Edward’s point of view and in his words. OOOOHHH. I can’t wait to read it!!!
Do any of these books interest you? I put a few more below that might be what you are looking for and if you have something you loved – Please leave it in the comments so my other followers can enjoy more books too!
