Summer is off to a really good reading start! I filled my Kindle Paperwhite with 9 books I wanted to read now and you will see which ones I got to first. I was on a little reading break this past Winter – for no other reason than I was distracted by too many other things going on in my life. When I started looking at books for this post, Best Summer Reads for 2019, I got excited to pick up so many of them that I dove back in. Oh, how I missed my reading!
If you haven’t read them, you will want to add these Books to Your List!
Nothing like a week at the beach to get some quality reading done. Besides the 3 I review below, I was able to finish Still Me by JoJo Moyes. The third, and maybe not last (??), title featuring Louisa Clark. I fell in love with her in Me Before You and really enjoyed the follow up book, After You. I can’t believe I hadn’t read it already..considering it came out in January of 2018. Such a fun read! It has some really good Laugh Out Loud moments and I did shed some tears. You gotta love a book that gives you a good cry! It is nothing like the tears I shed for Me Before You, promise! OMG!!! That was an epic tear jerk!
Drop down below to see which books I picked up first and could not put down!

[one-half]I had no idea what I was getting into but – WOW – did it hold my attention! Where the Crawdads Sing is so good. It grabs you from page one and keeps you guessing. The passages are descriptive and the landscape spell bounding. I read this on my kindle and I was so nervous about the outcome that I wanted to rush ahead and read the end! If I was reading a book, I would have flipped to the end to find out what happens! Yes – I do that! Same with movies – I would rather know the ending in advance then be surprised! Call me crazy! But it is really hard to flip ahead on a kindle, so I stuck through it and did not cheat! Set in the 1950’s in rural North Carolina, it weaves you through the solitary life of Kya Clark. How she brings herself up and survives in nature. It has a mystery and love story entwined within. It is really good!

[one-half]The Lost Man was our Book club choice earlier this Summer. It is set in the Australian Outback and starts when two brothers meet up at the site of their middle brothers death. With their brother dead at their feet and no idea what happened, they go back to uncover the mystery of his death and unravel the family dynamics. I wrote on my instagram that I was worried about what was to come when I started it. It definitely sucked me in and got me thinking about what could have happened. How did he die? Who did it? Slowly the story unravels and it keeps you guessing. I love a good mystery and this one delivers.

[one-half]I just finished The Great Alone. The story centers around Leni Allbright, the thirteen year old daughter of Ernt and Cora. Ernt, a struggling POW from the Vietnam War, bounces from job to job and with each new job they move to a new location. After his most recent job loss, he decides to move his family to Alaska and start fresh. The descriptive scenery is breathtaking and all seems to be going well until the Alaska dark, cold Winter starts to take a toll on Ernt. Leni is caught in the middle of her parents love story, her obligation to her mother and her need for her own independence. It grabbed my attention and had me crying to the end. I ended up staying up way too late to finish it.. but it was so worth it. I loved it!
