Do you ever feel like you can’t fit it all into your day, that you are running from place to place and your to do list doesn’t end? That seems to be me right now and while I love everything I am involved with and working on, I feel like I might be better off taking a moment to stop, focus and make a plan.
I think of myself as an organized person, but I can’t seem to keep to one to-do-list or one place to manage my tasks. I sometimes feel like the Apps and paper journal are actually making it harder for me to be organized. I have too many Apps and places to make lists and manage everything I do.
Now what?
I am going into Labor Day weekend and, what I have always considered, the new school year with a plan to start fresh. By that I mean, I want to focus on the tools that work for me and get rid of all the ones that are taking up space on my phone and therefore in the recesses of my mind.
Here are the 9 Apps and programs I use daily for either work and/or pleasure. Please note that I am using an iPhone and have a PC in the office and an Apple computer at home,.
- Wunderlist – I have used Evernote in the past and when it started charging for connecting on multiple platform, I made the choice to find a new tool because I don’t need or want to pay for a something I know I can get for free. I moved to Wunderlist which is simple, a nice interface and not too many bells or whistles. I like that I can share to-do lists with my family and we can see in real time what gets checked off the list. It is a step up from a written notebook and like how you can add notes, attachments and images.
- Calendly – I just discovered this appointment / scheduling program and it is really cool. I can send a link to anyone I am trying to schedule an appointment with and they can see open slots in my day to pick what works for them. Once an appointment is scheduled they get a confirmation and reminder of the meeting. This is a really awesome tool.
- CoSchedule – I use CoSchedule daily with WordPress and it is how I post my Blog on Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook Pages and Twitter. It is an amazing way to schedule posts across many platforms and if you have a team of people working with you it centralizes all the tasks in one place. Creating an editorial calendar and to-do list for the team. This is a great tool and one I can’t live without.
- Typorama – This is an App that puts text over images. I use this for making any posts on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc where I want to layer words over a blank page or image. I think it is worth it to pay for the upgrade to remove the Typorama logo on the finished product. I like how this App has lots of font options and is very simple to use.
- Kindle APP & Libby App– I can’t live with out this App or my actual Kindle – I use both daily. I can read a book on the Kindle App on my phone and then pick it up on the Kindle Paperwhite e-reader. It makes my life easy and I love knowing I have a list of books waiting for me to dive into at all times.
- Podcasts – I started listening to podcasts about a year ago and it has really been life changing. I walk every day from Grand Central Station in New York City to my office on 16th Street. It takes about 30 minutes and when I stopped listening to the same music over and over again and switched to podcasts, it made my walk so much more interesting. I now listen to all kinds of programs and have subscribed to many favorites. I don’t know which one will come up on a given day and each one offers a different personality or topic. If you aren’t listening to podcasts, I highly recommend plugging in and listening in. Message me if you want to know who I am listening to.
- Sweat App – I can’t seem to commit to going to the gym and besides walking, I need a plan to follow at home or on the go to keep in shape. I love this App and have been pretty faithful at doing it on a regular basis. If you sign up – let me know – I would love to hear what you think.
- Waze – This is the best travel navigation GPS App out there. I can’t live without it and I use it almost daily. I even used it in Europe. If you don’t have it, I suggest you go right now and download it. It is a life savior in traffic!
- Dropbox – I put everything in my dropbox.com account and can access them from my phone, laptop, work and home computers. This is a great way to store your photographs and documents for easy accessibility. I suggest setting it up with folders in the beginning so that you can easily upload to the proper location and find things on the go.

There are so many more Apps on my phone that I use but these are the ones I use the most. I am sure I am missing something important and I will follow up with another post in the near future with more Apps or programs that i like to use and why. What about you? What do you use and what are your favorites? Please leave a note below – I would love to hear about them!
